Will HgH help me lose weight? Do doctors prescribe it? -Curt

Dear Curt,

HgH (human growth hormone) is a hot topic but this issue must be approached with great caution. For those who actually have a low HgH then this type of treatment can have a big impact on the quality of their life. But it is not a parlor trick that anyone can just pug into and magically be transformed into a younger more vibrant version of themselves.

First of all HgH is not a compound that has many long term clinical trials. One of the initial clinical concerns was HgH’s potential for inducing or provoking accelerated cancer growth. This issue seems less likely with appropriate use under the care of seasoned physician who has experience with its use but you need to take that into consideration.

Secondly it is grossly expensive. HgH treatments can cost thousands of dollars per year and with prolonged use can lead to dependency. If you down-regulate your own body’s natural production of growth hormone with HgH then you may be saddled with taking it for life. Your body may recover and begin to produce it again after discontinuing HgH, but if it was low enough to require it’s use in the first place then you have to assume that it may never return to normal.

So to answer your question, there are a lot of things that will help you to lose weight but before you consider seeking dangerous options you should start with the basics. Starving yourself for 6 months will lead to very successful weight loss but it is far from healthy.

Discover the issues that limit your ability to maintain a healthy weight and gradually make changes. Are you insulin resistant? Is your stress level affecting your sleep and body metabolism? Do you eat breakfast every day and if you respond yes then the next question is do you eat a HEALTHY breakfast each day? If your answer is, “yes I eat a bowl of cereal, toast and orange juice” then I would say I’ve discovered one of your issues. That’s not a healthy breakfast for most people.

Here’s my down and dirty free weight loss starter kit: Eat a breakfast containing 20 grams of protein each morning and limit the bread, grains, rice, pasta and potato in your diet as much as possible. Exercise 4 to 5 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. Drink a gallon of water each day and avoid processed foods.

If this simple healthy regimen doesn’t lead to weight loss then I have several very efficient and effective approaches in my office that I use to pull weight off of people every day. Contact me if you need help. If you think you need HgH then find a good endocrinologist and get your blood levels measured.

Best of luck,
Dr. Gary Huber
