Q. How much and what kind of vitamin D do I need to increase my levels from 31? -Lisa

How much Vitamin D do I need to take to increase my number from 31?  What type do you recommend?

p.s.  Have you ever tired asparagus and grape tomatoes with your morning eggs?  Throw in a little fresh parmesan for some extra YUMMINESS! Really enjoying your site!  Thanks  -Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I love the breakfast suggestion. I’ll gladly give that nice little twist a try.

Regarding vitamin D, you simply want to find vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) which should be inexpensive and easy to locate. Your objective is a blood level around 50 to 60 ng/ml which can be checked on a simple blood test from your doctor or order one through ZRT labs and do it at home yourself.  To get there from a present level of 31 I would recommend taking between 4000 to 6000 units per day.  Do this for a couple of months and then check your level again. A dose of 5000 units per day is very typical for the average adult.

Have a great holiday, Lisa.
