Q. Do “bacterial” wipes help fight the flu “virus”? -Mr. Hyde

Q. As part of my office’s flu prevention effort they have passed out anti-BACTERIAL hand and surface wipes.  Are these affective against the flu VIRUS? – Mr. Hyde

Dear Mr. Hyde,

Alcohol hand rubs are the most beneficial but even running water over your hands will dilute any secretions or viral load that are clinging to you.

Having said this, alcohol is very drying and may cause skin irritation.  If this occurs then you may need to monitor the number of times you use the alcohol.  Personally I am avoiding the pleasantries of a handshake until this flu stuff quiets down.

Sincerely,
Dr. Huber
