Can Your Blue Mood Cause A Heart Attack?

Can Your Blue Mood Cause A Heart Attack?

Just understanding the relationship between these body organs should help you to refocus your energies on more important tasks. Allowing job stress, relationship issues, financial worries, or other stressors to affect your mood can truly damage your health.

So back to the beginning.  When we hold thoughts like, “I’m a loser”, “I’ll never get out of debt”, “My life sucks”, or any number of self defeating thoughts we need to begin to understand that these thoughts are not just harmless vapors that float away. They are REAL THINGS that effect who we believe ourselves to be.

Affecting Body Function

Negative thoughts create an inflammatory chemistry within our bodies that lead to aches and pains.

Negative thoughts lead to self destructive behavior like excess “comfort foods” and excess alcohol, diminished sleep, increasing fatigue and yes, heart attacks.

If you are a negative thinker then vow to make some changes today.  Start moving in a new direction. Realize a negative thought when you see one and cast it out of your body. Refuse to spend ANY energy on these negative thoughts.

A friend of mine refers to it as “not feeding the CAT.” CAT stands for Counterproductive Attitudes and Thoughts. If a stray cat ends up on your porch and you ignore it, then the cat will go away. If you feed the cat then it will return every day with greater frequency.

So . . . don’t feed the CAT, and these negative thoughts will begin to subside.

Start developing positive thoughts and emotions. Write down the good things you enjoy about your life and the good qualities in yourself that you like. Develop an attitude for daily gratitude for all the good things you have and all the good directions you are moving.

Life is always moving. Nothing ever stays the same.  So as your life moves take charge of it’s direction and purpose. You hold the power to rewrite that direction and purpose every single day. DO NOT relinquish that power to anyone. Take control and begin in a new direction that promotes smiles and feelings of gratitude.

Find a voice that speaks to you. Read a book, in fact read two, or 20 or so. Find the voice of someone who rings true to your spirit and allow that voice to implant new thoughts and ideas to replace the old stale self-limiting beliefs.

The most lively and energetic people I know are the ones who remain open to new ideas and possibilities. If you are sad and hopeless then you have shut your mind off to new ideas. Just open your ears and eyes and things can change today.

Thoughts are things . . . and they can lead to a heart attack. Scientific studies tell us so. Studies also tell us that the best way to induce coronary vessel relaxation and feed blood to the heart in a healthy way is through a good ol’ fashion belly laugh.  Yeah, that’s right, simple laughter.  So “mind” and mindset do matter and have real effects.

Here is a list of some of my favorite voices:

  • Anthony Robbins, books and CD’s
  • Og Mandino, books “The Greatest Secret In The World”
  • Napoleon Hill, book  “Think And Grow Rich”
  • James Ray, books and CD’s
  • Jim Rohn, book and CD’s “The Art Of Exceptional Living”
  • Dan Millman, book “The Way Of The Peaceful Warrior”
  • Benjamin Hoff, book “The Tao Of Pooh”
  • John C. Maxwell, book “Thinking For A Change”
  • Justin Halpern, book “Sh*t My Dad Says” – laugh out loud funny.
(this book is the funniest thing I have read in years)

Please let me know some of YOUR favorite voices. We are all in this together, so let’s share and laugh together.

    Dr. Huber,

    Fantastic article!

The truth that you have presented is a well-known fact. But I simply love the way you have presented it. I know thousands of readers will enjoy reading it and cerainly if a fraction of them apply , it will improve their lives.

    Thanks!

Hahah – love the CAT analogy. However, can you modify it to stray “negative energy” CATs that show up on your porch versus the warm, fuzzy variety that may be in need of your love and compassion?:) Purrrr.

Kudos to the good doctor for this excellent article. We live in an era where people are pronounced to have a “biochemical imbalance”, and then prescribed pills to correct the condition. Little attention has been paid to the root of the biochemical imbalance which is most often the patient’s negative loop thought pattern, coupled with lack of exercise, and poor nutrition. If you want to change your brain chemistry, change the way you think!
