BTW - lest HAE readers think Mr. Hyde has been shooting up,- the author who was speaking of GABA receptors was referring to a talk she gave to women in prison on drug related charges.

When it comes to alcohol I'll take the fifth...no....wait.

Excellent article Dr. Huber.

Thanks to Healthy Alter Ego and your previous article on green tea I've been putting 1/2 tablespoon of pulverized Sencha green tea leaves in morning protein shakes for some time, but I now know it has an even wider array of health benefits.

Another item I've recently added to my diet, but not on a daily basis, is an Ito En product called a "Sencha Shot". This is a 6.4 fl. oz. serving of double strength green that I've developed a taste for. It''s somewhat bitter, but since I drink my coffee black and don't add sweeteners to ANYTHING I find it both refreshing, and thanks to the theanine content, relaxing. The only thing I have bad to say about it is that it comes in a plastic lined steel can, but I figure the toxins in the plastic are easier to purge from the body than chelating out aluminum.

One thing I'd like to add about GABA. I was just reading, last night as a matter of fact, that artificial intoxicants like alcohol, marijuana, heroin, etc., utilize the same cell receptors as GABA and that overuse can wear these receptors out which desensitizes them. So if you want to feel good AND be healthy, put down the drink and let those receptors recover.
