Q. Can they make the flu vaccine mandatory in Ohio schools? – Laurie

Dr. Huber,

Please see this article:

Can they make this mandatory? I do NOT want my children getting this vaccine.

Dear Laurie,

The article you referenc refers to “voluntary,” not mandatory vaccines. Schools,  grocery stores and pharmacies can all offer voluntary vaccines.

Your question relates to the possibility of mandatory vaccines which has been discussed in the news.

The laws may vary state to state but in Ohio I am led to believe that the state has no right to force mandatory vaccinations of any kind on children or adults.  I was given an Ohio revised code section 3313.671 to review but as I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, I would refer you to a qualified legal professional to sort through that.

I will not allow my children to receive a flu vaccine of any kind and I imagine that any attempt by the state at a mandatory vaccine would be met with such fierce resistance that would inevitably fail.  The vaccines need to be demonstrated as safe and effective and they are nowhere near either of these claims.

It remains our responsibility to voice our concerns to local and regional legislators so that they can appropriately represent us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gary Huber

  1. Mr. Hyde says:

I’d rather try to read the Old Testament in the original Hebrew than the Ohio revised code. Ugh!

Kenton County (Kentucky) has their H1N1 vaccination stations set up for next week. We will not be participating either. http://www.vaccinerights.com is an excellent resource.
