Q. Do you think we need a change in the way doctors are compensated? -Brennan
Q. According to the latest Ohio Health Issues Poll from the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, 65% of Ohioan think doctors should be paid more for preventing and managing chronic illness than per procedure. Do you think we need a change in the way doctors are compensated? The entire poll is at www.healthfoundation.org/ohip.html
Dear Brennan,
Yes.
Years ago in the orient, you paid your doctor when you felt well and stopped paying him when you got sick. He was motivated to PREVENT illness. If you need proof that present day medicine is trying to keep you sick to make more money then just go to any hospital cafeteria and tell me how you feel.
Present day medicine is a money machine driven by businessmen not doctors. The wealthiest people in health care are the drug and insurance companies. When you look at the ten drug companies that exist within the fortune 500 and realize that their revenue is more then the combines revenue of the other 490 companies, you begin to gain perspective on our “disease care system.”
Your doctor is receiving a fraction of the money you spend on health care. Get rid of the 28 middle men involved in this dysfunctional system and peace will be restored. But then I’m just a doctor, not a businessman, what do I know about money?

I have recently started receiving your HAE newsletter, and I have to say I LOVE it! I am very interested in preventative medicine and read everything I can on good nutrition for preventing disease. I also firmly believe the pharmaceutical companies are killing people and getting rich off of it! I live in the St. Louis area. Do you know of a doctor who shares your philosophies? I love my doc (a personal friend), but he doesn’t have time or interest in “alternative or integrative medicine.” He can only believe what the drug company studies show.
Thanks for all the good information!
Hi Diana,
Well I do have a patient in St. Louis that drives up once or twice a year to see me. Perhaps you two can car pool. The truth is I wish I had more colleagues around the country that shared in my passion for prevention and healthy living. But it is growing. I do know that more and more physicians are expanding their view of medicine and there are many great practitioners helping their patients lead healthier lives. One way to help track down a practitioner in your area might be to go to the ZRT Lab website and ask for a practitioner in your area that uses their testing. Any practitioner that uses ZRT saliva hormone test kits will tend to be a more progressive thinker. Thanks for your comments and I hope we can fill your head with plenty of good ideas for your Healthy Alter Ego.
Take Care,
